PLUS DEMONSTRATION CD included – Powerpoint demonstration and Windows Media demonstration showing a brief history of Celtic Art including sample pages from the Book of Kells, examples of projects your students can easily make and how to make their own ‘parchment paper’.
If you are going to get the students to make a diary, have an activity afternoon first to make the paper and plan their front cover and topics for the inside pages.
There are sample front covers and inside pages on the Demonstration CD and also on the inside front cover of the book itself.
The inside pages topics can include information about, their school, places they have visited, a page for addresses of new friends they have met etc.
The last half hour of each class (when they are starting to wind down a bit/lose concentration) could be set aside for writing up their diaries on rough paper first, teacher error corrects and then they write their corrected pages onto their 'parchment paper' or white or coloured paper/card.
They use a Celtic letter for the start of each paragraph (4 alphabets to choose from - NB - it is less time consuming to cut around the box of the letter rather than the actual letter itself.)
There are plenty of Celtic designs , shamrocks, leprechauns etc for them to cut out, colour and stick onto their pages.
Play some background music while they are writing and working on their projects.
"Teaching Celtic Art Activities" makes diary work and writing a lot more interesting for them and gives their parents an idea of what their children have done and learnt when they were in Ireland!
