LOOK NO FURTHER…
So throw away the Tippex, the scissors and the sellotape for the gap fills! It's been all done for you!!
I've been a teacher and writer of English for over 20 years all over the world and returned to Ireland in 2000.
Songs are one of the best ways to teach language - for all levels and ages.
I have researched this thoroughly and have tested the ideas in many different classes with various foreign students of all levels from Beginner to Advanced. Here are the results...
It is very difficult to find songs (music and lyrics) with matching exercises to teach English.
Most of the best music is copyright and you could be fined for unauthorised playing and copying! So it is very difficult, if at all possible to find good royalty free songs. And don’t you just hate it when you give lyrics to students (with gaps fills) and the lyrics don’t match the songs exactly and students get all confused?
I have chosen ten of the some of the most popular Traditional Irish Songs and have written 14 different types of exercises to help you to teach them. The songs have been recorded in Donegal, Ireland specially to use with this book so that the words of the songs and the words of the exercises match exactly!
I guarantee that this will save you a lot of time, frustration and energy!

line 1 and 2 G Em C G Em
line 3 and 4 G Em C G Em
So I have added an extra Em at the expense of 1 bar of G
In the chorus I would add one extra chord of D7 at the end
so we have D for Musha ringum etc
the G for whack fol etc C for next hack Fol etc. Then G for There’s followed D or D7 for Whisky in the finally G for jar at the end
Example: to kill, pluck, gut etc. a chicken.
Would this allow individuals to relate to the animal instead of distancing themselves and only acknowleging the kill as a lump of meat?
